In 1961, Roy and Dorothy Skinner purchased a building located in the heart of Beverly, which was previously a Ford dealership. There, they opened Skinner Firestone. Other than Roy, there were only two other employees hired. For the first year, they only sold and repaired tires. One year later, they hired another employee to handle alignments and some mechanical aspects. As the business grew, so did their staff, in 1964, Skinner Firestone started retreading passenger and medium truck tires. Roy also purchased a Ford Van and began providing service calls.
In 1975, Vernon, Roy and Dorothy's son, started working at the shop. Then in 1995, Vernon and his wife Jill, took over Skinner Firestone. In 1996, an additional building was purchased and became the alignment shop, with state of the art alignment technology.
Now, next door to the old shop stands the new Skinner Firestone building which opened in December 2007. There are roughly thirteen associates employed there now, including Vernon and Jill's children, Tara and Brandon.
